The process in which a bill becomes a law is long, difficult, and trying. Nurses have unique strengths that make them valuable resources for lawmakers. It is the responsibility of nurses to understand the legislative process and how their influence affects it. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the legislative process, how nurses can influence legislature, the political issue of childhood immunizations, and my opinion on the issue. Part 1 The Legislative Process Health policies, whether allocative or regulatory, are presented, debated, and decided on through the legislative process. It is the responsibility of all nurses to understand the many steps to this process, recognize problems that require attention, and know how they are able to influence the decision making process (Burkhardt Nathaniel, 2014).
